A Cheshire lad through and through although I have lived in several English counties. Bitten by the “grayling bug” when I caught my first grayling aged 5. I studied construction (BSc) in Sheffield (building/civil engineering) before a complete change of career into fisheries.
In 1991, I joined the National River Authority working with salmon and sea trout predominantly on the Welsh Dee as part of the National Fisheries Technical Team - where I took the reins as grayling technical lead. Since then I’ve worked for the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales engaged in fisheries science and management. I’ve managed or been part of several grayling R&D projects and represent Wales on the England and Wales trout and grayling fisheries strategy group.
Beyond the work environment, I enjoy fishing for grayling, barbel and sea fish. I also love history (through metal detecting), road cycling, music and playing football for my village veterans team.
