Born and bred in Yorkshire, grayling have been a lifelong passion ever since my father first introduced me to fly-fishing in the late 70s. I studied aquatic biology (BSc) at University of Wales Aberystwyth before completing a master’s in aquatic resource management at Kings College London.
In 1989 I joined Welsh Water, working with a team radio tracking salmon and sea trout. I have been employed in south Wales ever since, by the National Rivers Authority, Environment Agency and latterly Natural Resources Wales, engaged in fisheries science and management. I represent Wales on the England and Wales Trout and Grayling Group.
Outside work I still love my fishing and have fished for grayling across Europe including Norway, France, Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic and Slovakia. More recently it’s been the pursuit of arctic grayling that has gripped my travelling bug each summer. I have represented England at European fly-fishing championships, captained at home internationals and managed the England World Youth team.
